PROJECT: Courtyard House
TYPE: Residential
LOCATION: Wiltshire
SERVICE: RIBA work stages 0-7
STATUS: Complete 2020
This new single-storey dwelling replaces a derelict farmyard, with a design rooted in extensive historic research. Inspired by traditional farmstead layouts, the house is arranged around a courtyard plan that integrates sensitively with the neighbouring original farmhouse.
A separate parking courtyard, garaging, and annexe have been created for the neighbouring property as part of the overall site strategy, strengthening the sense of place and rural character.
The new home features a series of barn-like forms, including a bedroom wing with glazed doors opening onto a landscaped garden. At its centre, an open-plan kitchen, dining and living space is positioned to make the most of the sweeping views towards Salisbury Plain.
