PROJECT: Bibury

TYPE: Residential

LOCATION: Gloucestershire

SERVICE: RIBA work stages 0-7

STATUS: Complete

This project comprises the development of 11 affordable homes on a rural exception site at the edge of the historic Cotswold village of Bibury. The scheme has been carefully designed to respond to its sensitive rural setting, providing much needed social housing while respecting the distinctive character and architectural heritage of the village.

The design draws inspiration from the local vernacular, incorporating traditional forms, proportions and materials to create a development that sits comfortably within its surroundings. Natural Cotswold stone and traditional stone slate roofs establish a strong connection to the local built environment, ensuring the homes feel authentic to their context.

Behind the traditional appearance, the scheme embraces modern construction methods, utilising timber frame construction and high levels of insulation to deliver energy efficient, comfortable homes with reduced operational energy demands.
