This contemporary extension transforms a Grade II Listed thatched cottage, reimagining the way the house is lived in. Previously characterised by a series of dark, confined spaces and a cramped kitchen, the extension introduces a bright, open plan kitchen, dining and living area, bringing natural light, space and a connection to the garden into the heart of the home.

The extension replicates the traditional form of the existing cottage, with an integrated loggia that provides solar shading ensuring a comfortable internal environment. The large sliding and stacking glass doors can be opened up revealing an apparently unsupported corner. This creates a fluid threshold between inside and out, allowing the living space to open seamlessly to the garden.

Clad in vertical black stained timber and capped with a standing seam zinc roof, the extension offers a deliberate contrast to the traditional thatched roof of the original cottage, while complementing its historic material palette.
